How to Qualify for BC Chess Challenge on April 11, 2010

There are three ways to qualify to play in the BC Chess Challenge.

1) Play in any of the Regional Qualifier events.
Players must score 2.0 points or more in Regional Tournament to qualify.

List of Qualifying Tournaments:
- K12 Vancouver Regional (Feb 21, 2010)
- K12 Fraser Valley Regional (Feb 27, 2010)
- K12 Bowser Qualifier (Mar 7, 2010)
- K12 Okanagan Regional (March 27, 2010)
- K12 Mid-Island Regional (Mar 28, 2010)
- K12 Victoria Regional (Apr 2, 2010)

2) Be a Member of Team BC (2009).
Team BC members are 2009 BC Chess Challenge champions for their grade and or members of the 2009 BC-Intermat Match.

3) Appeal to the Qualifications Board.
Send a letter to the BC Junior Chess Association Qualification Board explaining why you should be allowed to play in the Provincial Championship. This is commonly applied where a player falls ill on game day or there are no
qualifying events in their area. History in the Provincial, current chess activity and a rating in the top 50% of your grade are typical qualifying conditions.

There is a $10 fee for a Qualifying Board review.
(Areas with no Regional Qualifying Tournaments are exempt from the fee)

Send your letter and a $10 cheque to:

BC Junior Chess Association
1689 141a St.
Surrey, B.C. V4A 8K2

The letter should be postmarked no later than Apr. 1, 2010, e.g. mail your letter before Apr. 1.
